Hi Creative Army! It’s great to meet you all! I’d like to properly introduce myself, I’m Samantha Rivera, the Development Services Coordinator at Stage 32! Some of you may have interacted with me through success@stage32.com, which is a great way for me to interact and answer any questions of any members regarding Stage 32, our services, and how we can best help you achieve your goals. However, emailing us isn't the only great way for you to closely connect with us at Stage 32. It's just one of many great resources that can help you with whatever project you’re working on!

I've worked in the entertainment industry in various capacities for the past two years, primarily in representation. So I've seen firsthand what it takes to write a great screenplay so that you can get repped and also sell your project. Ensuring that you have the tools to execute your script is essential, and that's where research and resources can help...

Research

Researching is one of the most important factors when it comes to writing. Whether it’s a historical story about a larger-than-life figure, a fictional story, or characters out of this world, it is important to utilize research when writing. This can feel like the boring part of the process but actually, this is where you can delve deeper into the information you’re extracting. It's the information that will make your script feel more authentic and create a clearer picture for the reader. There is some information that may not feel significant when researching but knowing less about your subject can be limiting when creating your world.

You can also research different approaches, systems, and processes with how you write to help improve your writing. Some of the best places to research your process are within the webinars, classes, and labs on Stage 32. Stage 32 Next Level Webinars are typically 90-minute broadcasts that take place online and if you attend a live online webinar, you will be able to ask your instructor any questions you have. Stage 32 Next Level Classes are typically 2 to 4-week ongoing broadcasts that take place online both live and on-demand, allowing you to get deeper insight into the topic, like this one on the fundamentals of writing your feature film script. And, of course, we have our labs which are a multi-session experience that often includes direct and one-on-one feedback on your work.

Resources

There are so many resources across the Stage 32 board but one of my personal favorites is the ability to have your work reviewed by the great executives or industry professionals on Stage 32. You can even have a Career Development Call with the executive of your choice to help you build out a gameplan for your career. When we're talking about how to finish a goal (or goals) throughout November Write Club, these consultations can help put you on the path to knowing what your next steps should be as you're receiving guidance from professionals who have either helped writers achieve their dreams or are professional writers who have done it themselves.

Additionally, Stage 32’s Writer’s Room is key to utilizing all that Stage 32 has to offer. If you aren't familiar with The Stage 32 Writers’ Room, it is an exclusive community of writers who gather weekly online for inspiring and educational webcasts designed to help those serious about a life and career in the industry. Each week, industry executives and our writing team provide you with a wide variety of actionable information designed to not only improve your writing, but to help you navigate this increasingly complicated business.

In addition, there are peer-to-peer webcasts in which members can get live feedback on their scripts (The Coverage Report on Mondays), practice their pitches (The Pitch Practice on Thursdays), and hold each other accountable to ensure you're writing regularly with regular writing spring zoom sessions (The Writers' Cafes). We record each of the Wednesday Webcasts, featuring a new executive that you can learn from, and keep them in our on-demand library so that you can stay up to date if you miss out on the live stream.

And don't forget about the awesome Open Writing Assignments from real production companies, producers, and managers that you can submit to when you finish your script at the end of November Write Club!

The Stage 32’s Writer’s Room is a great hub of resources for members to elevate their projects, moreover, you’re able to converse with other writers and execs about anything from writing techniques to asking opinions on their work and hearing feedback from anyone, which are all great resources.
