The future of Cartoon Network looks very bleak

Woof. Ad revenue is down. Streaming numbers for CN content on Max are pitiful. Will Cartoon Network morph into something else in the future?

Its time may have come. I can't tell the last time I have watched it. What shows do you have now?

Cartoon Network was one of my favorite channels growing up, Mike Boas. The article says, "Cartoon Network is now largely focused on established IP, not original content." I understand why they're going in that direction, but I think making original shows that blow up will help the channel.

Lot of new AS shows like Lazarus. Did you see the first episode?

Bob Harper

Cartoon Network seems like WB will absorb it. They are already in the same offices. Once the cable system dies, then we will see if they remain a brand.

It is really sad. My goal is to work for Warner Bros and pitch my Cartoon Universe to them and produce it for Max, but what pains me is that them shelving all of their old Cartoon Network shows form the early 2000's. Why? Why not allow customers to binge their old and favorite shows? Seems very unproductive to me

It’s tough to see this kind of news, especially for a brand that’s been such a huge part of animation history. I just recently participated in a Cartoon Network Pub Crawl where over 200 adults dressed up as classic characters, and not a single repeat costume. That kind of turnout speaks volumes about how deeply CN’s legacy resonates with fans. There’s clearly still love for these stories and characters. I hope whatever comes next finds a way to honor that legacy while adapting to the new media landscape.

Mike Boas This was tough to read. My entire childhood was built off cartoon network. Based on the title I was expecting the numbers to be low but not 84% low. I am curious as to why children 10-12 aren't watching cartoons (social media maybe?). As a child, Saturday mornings, a bowl of cereal and cartoon network was the way to go. I do hope they are able to turn things around.
