Hungarian animation has a long, award-winning legacy, from Oscar-nominated features to decades of acclaimed shorts, service work, and co-productions. As Annecy launches its Tribute to Hungarian Animation this week, the industry is highlighting:

• 111 years of Hungarian animation history, plus bold new voices

• Major contributions across 2d, 3d, vfx, and stop-motion

• Studios like Kecskemétfilm, known for work on The Secret of Kells, Chico & Rita, The Red Turtle, and The Most Precious of Cargoes

• Recent co-productions, including White Plastic Sky, Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light, and John Vardar vs the Galaxy

• High-end service work, from feature films to Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots

• A new platform, Hunimation.com, connecting global collaborators with Hungarian animation talent

With Annecy spotlighting the country’s legacy and its next generation of artists, this is an interesting moment to look at what Hungary offers for world-building, co-production, and specialty animation work.

Has anyone here worked with Hungarian studios or collaborated internationally on animation projects? What was your experience?

Very cool stuff Ashley Renee Smith. Some of the snippets from the Hungarian sample reel have such a classic feel to them. I'll have to hop on Hunimation.com and check that out!

Ashley Renee Smith - to be candid, I honestly had no idea Hungary had this much involvement in the animation industry, let alone 111 years. I personally haven't worked with any Hungarian studios but I'm not opposed to doing some sort of collaboration in the future.
