Niche streaming services are continuing to grab titles, extend IP value and will no doubt lead to more opportunity for original projects, which is another great sign for independent filmmakers.
This annoucement caught my eye because the original HIGHLANDER is one of my favorite movies - a kick ass action film, an amazing script that launched many ships (despite early struggles at the box office) and great performances by Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart and the great Clancy Brown. Have you ever seen HIGHLANDER and, if so, what do you think of the film? https://deadline.com/2025/02/cineverse-highlander-digital-rights-streami...

HIGHLANDER was awesome!!! I saw it in the theater in my hometown. Had no idea what it was about and it blew my mind. This movie most certainly deserves a reboot!!!

I saw HIGHLANDER growing up, Sam Sokolow, but I need to rewatch it since I don't remember what the story is about.

This sure brings back some good vibes Sam Sokolow. I remember seeing it in theaters and absolutely loved it. Enjoyed the series although I don't remember the relationship between the two - I know they were related somehow. Loved Sean Connery's character as well.

I remember so well “Highlander”! It was epic and stayed in my memories since my youth. I am a Sean Connery fan and I think I would love to watch again. Thanks for sharing Sam Sokolow :))

I find it funny that the first film launched a franchise, given the story didn’t leave a lot of options open for sequels.
That said, this news got me to rewatch The Highlander last night. Simple story told with amazing stylistic flourishes by music video director Russell Mulcahy. I love the transitions for the time jumps! Michael Kamen, working with Queen, did a bang up job on the music.

Come to think of it, Mike Boas - that's a great point. Nobody working on the sequels or spinoffs must have heard the key line in the original - "there can be only one!" :)

I watched the first episode of the TV show last night, just to see how they addressed the continuity. They made a point that the main character was a different MacLeod, mentored by the Christopher Lambert character, but it seems like the final events from the film never took place. Also, the episode was pretty terrible. Maybe it got better? I remember watching it a few times.
Never saw any minute of any Highlander production. I don't know why, but I'm only one person against an entire fan base. I can only hope that whoever is in charge of the new material, does a great job and gives the fans of this I.P. something to be excited about and not leave disappointment in their wake.
