I've written a feature that I'm just starting to consider directing, and I'm wondering about all those great "tiers" I see on crowdfunding sites. For this contribution, you get that. But contribute THIS much, you get THAT.
And it got me thinking: how do you strategize the tiers and incentives? Are you trying to come up with items related to the film project itself? That fit the project thematically? How do you entice people to participate?

One thing you should definitely consider - perks that are exclusive to contributors. For example, you could say they could get special updates from the set or the project before you make them public. You could also create a tier where they get to see the film at a special private backers only screening before any one else. The nice thing about these updates is that they don't involve producing physical goods or shipping anything to anyone - in the case of the screening you just need a venue and ideally to bring your cast and crew out so that they backers can meet them!
