What a fantastic article! I'm new to the world of horror personally, but when I stepped into the role of film finance it became apparent that I needed to get in this space. This blog is an excellent testament to those out there that horror works! I'm glad the author touched on marketing budgets. I hear all the time that "this movie made this for this" but they usually don't mention the movie was (for example) made for 2.5 MM but 500k was actually for marketing. This genre is an excellent example of how you can create a universal buzz and make a substantial profit!

You're right, Keely Kemp ("This genre is an excellent example of how you can create a universal buzz"). And Horror is one of the genres where a filmmaker can get creative at marketing, like dressing up as the monster while during a Q&A with fans and releasing scare clips from the movie.

Awesome blog and horror has always been a way to kickstart a directing career or build a franchise. It is a genuine universal language that money talks. Thanks, Maurice Vaughan.
