Introduce Yourself : Finding the time by Andy Maycock

Finding the time

Hi, folks. Andy Maycock here, writer with zero credits but plenty of optimism.

I teach HS English during the day, am directing a production of Les Mis in the afternoons, and am writing one spec while revising another (and dreaming up still another) the rest of the time.

I have no trouble balancing these things, but I'm interested how others have made the jump from "would-be" filmmaker to "actual" filmmaker. How do you maximize your time so you make connections, help others with their projects, and so on?

It seems like writers aren't limited by geography anymore (I'm in upstate NY), but I imagine if you're going to help other people, you have to be where the action is. Assuming you're not in LA or NYC, how do you find the projects?

Happy New Year to all,

Andy
