Introduce Yourself : From IT Geek to Sci-Fi Script Writer (No Maple Syrup Required!) by Mike Clarke

From IT Geek to Sci-Fi Script Writer (No Maple Syrup Required!)

Hello, Stage 32 Community!

I’m thrilled to connect with such a dynamic group of filmmakers and industry professionals. My journey began at the tender age of eight, when I first fell in love with science fiction (I’ve devoured every major sci-fi work at least once—though there’s always more out there!).

By day, I’m an independent analyst in information technology here in Burnaby, BC. By night, I indulge my passion for writing, dedicating myself to exploring cosmic frontiers, questioning our existence, and occasionally trying to right all the wrongs of the universe. Over the past few years, I’ve dabbled in screenwriting—a pivot from my work on novels but a creative challenge I’ve found incredibly rewarding.

I currently have two projects in progress: one script and one novel. Both have tested my storytelling mettle and have taught me the value of a solid edit (and the ego-refinement that comes with it!). While it’s been a steep learning curve—complete with more edits than I’d like to admit—I’m eager to keep growing and refining my craft.

My goal is to produce compelling, high-quality stories that resonate with audiences. In joining Stage 32, I’m looking to connect with producers, agents, and fellow creators who share my passion for storytelling. If you’re interested in fresh sci-fi perspectives that blend thought-provoking themes with an imaginative twist, I’d love to chat!

Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I look forward to collaborating, learning from your experiences, and (hopefully) making a few cosmic breakthroughs along the way.

Warm regards,

Michael S. Clarke

Hi, Mike Clarke. Hope you're having a great weekend. What's one of your favorite Sci-Fi movies?

Mike Clarke

One of my favorites is "The Fifth Element". The screenwriting is absolutely brilliant. I forget how many times I've watched it. It would delight me if I watched it again this evening. "Multipass".

I loved The Fifth Element growing up, Mike Clarke. I need to rewatch it and read the script. Starship Troopers is another Sci-Fi movie I loved growing up. I saw it in theaters.
