Introduce Yourself : Happy To Connect by Chris Watt

Happy To Connect

Hi folks, nice to be able to do a little re-introduction.

I'm Chris Watt, a Scotland (Aberdeen) based screenwriter and script consultant. I wrote the screenplay for the horror thriller feature film STALKER (2022) starring Sophie Skelton (Outlander) as well as the screenplay for feature film THE MIRE (2023), both of which you can find on Prime Video, Tubi, other digital services (Stalker is also on bluray/DVD).

I wrote the script for the award winning short film BRUISE, back on 2022, which played at Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festivals all over the world. I am a member of BAFTA Scotland, and recently was the Grand Prize Winner of the Shore Scripts TV Pilot Competition, with my script SOUTHBANK.

I write any genre, primarily in the dramatic comedy area, but I am currently working on a new horror film, another short and potentially an adaptation of a children's book.

As a script consultant, I have worked for numerous screenwriting competitions, as well as contributing as a script supervisor and advisor for the BFI Film Labs in Scotland, and advising numerous indie filmmakers.

Any questions, don't be afraid to connect with me.

Chris,

Nice to 'meet' you. I am an actor/musician, and learning the ropes of screenwriting. i'm from the States, but played a concert in Aberdeen once. I remember walking the streets and finding the Douglas hotel, which made me feel welcomed, heh. I'm actually going to Scotland in March and have a book reading in Edinburgh. Not coming to Aberdeen this trip, but hope to come back some day.

Hey, Chris Watt. Great to see you at Introduce Yourself Weekend again. I just added STALKER and THE MIRE to my Prime Video watch list. I've been meaning to watch STALKER since I saw the poster on social media. What sub-genre is your Horror film?

Cashimear Oparah

Hi Chris. I'm happy to meet you. I'm a writer/actor who has had a go at directing. My latest script is in its third rewrite. Let's connect!

Curt Samlaska

Hello Chris!!! Welcome to Stage32. Chris is awesome...I have had one hour consultations with him on a few of my scripts and he is very helpful and had very good suggestions on how to improve my scripts. I'm working on my short film (Forgiving Retribution), almost done, so I have put my other scripts on the back burner for now, but will be back at it soon. You may be hearing from me again... Cheers!

Sam Sokolow

Hey Chris Watt - its great to see you here in the community! You have such a cool background and great experience. Can you share what your new horror script is about?

Chris Watt

Hi Sam Sokolow and thank you. Been working for a long time now, so the career momentum has really started to pick up these past few years. I know it's rare to have two feature films I wrote, shoot back to back, so now it's all about new material. The new horror screenplay is called PENUMBRA, and it is about a woman who survives a horrific act of domestic violence, which leaves her assailant dead and she the main witness to what happened. Except that, because of her injuries, she can't remember. So she agrees to attend a facility where they will use experimental hypnotherapy to try and discover the truth, only to open a door to something far more threatening and potentially supernatural that puts everyone in the facility at risk.

Also working on a thriller screenplay called HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN? which is about an online therapist who finds herself trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a new, unseen client. Panic Room meets Kimi, meets Phone Booth.

Chris Watt

Hey Curt Samlaska nice to see you here and thank you for the kind words regarding my script consultations. Was a pleasure talking to you, and your work has stayed in my mind, which must be a good thing!

Chris Watt

Hi Cashimear Oparah great to meet you, and happy to connect!

Chris Watt

Hi Mike Childress and yes, I know the Cairngorms quite well, good place for hiking! Nice to meet you and good luck with all your projects. Happy to connect!

Chris Watt

Hi Maurice Vaughan my latest horror is a psychological/folk horror sub genre, that deals with hypnosis and potential possession. Nice lightweight material! Happy to connect!

Chris Watt

Hi Douglas Esper your name actually seems mighty familiar to me, so I'm sure I must have seen some of your work through mutuals on social media, or maybe one of your books. Nice to connect!

Maurice Vaughan

That sounds interesting, Chris Watt. I don't think I've seen that genre mix in a Horror movie. How's the film coming along?

Bobby G

what are some common mistakes you see as a script consultant? Any advice for people new to script writing?

Pete Carroll
