Hey Everyone,
I joined Stage 32 awhile ago but I wasn't too sure how to utilize it. I am coming back to use it more and I look forward to what I can learn and the new connections I can make. I am an actress and stuntwoman, recently relocated to Ohio, US, from Canada. I am looking for opportunities but also hoping to expand my knowledge into screenwriting. Looking forward to being apart of the community!

Hey Kerry Kennard
Do you have more info on the Film org in Cleveland?
I have heard of Angela and have her in my emails. She almost got me on for superman but some of her formatting for forms wasn't useable. Not sure if thats why it fell through or not. But, I do have her in my sights. That's good to know she comes recommended, I haven't heard too many people mention her otherwise. Hopefully I'll get some work soon. I appreciate you commenting and reaching out. I hope Ohio has an increasing future in film!
Maurice Vaughan Thank you! So far its been great and still a lot to explore here :)

You're welcome, Megan Reneau. I don't know if you're a football fan or not, but I'm sure there's a lot of celebrating going on in Ohio since Ohio State won the championship last night.

Bobby G I love being a stuntwoman! I have a couple articles, I put two here below:
https://boldjourney.com/meet-megan-reneau/
https://voyagedallas.com/interview/daily-inspiration-meet-megan-reneau/
I have a couple things brewing too including a podcast, I'll for sure add it somewhere on here, I think I can on my profile feed. I am also working more on my Patreon. So hopefully a lot of content coming. Podcast is most likely going to be more stunt focused and the Patreon is a mix of Acting and Stunts. I will update as I go :)
Very nice to hear you are interested.

Maurice Vaughan Oh yes! OH.... We were watching it last night for sure. Pretty awesome. As a stuntwoman i didn't watch too many mainstream sports (dumb I know). Since moving to Ohio, I've been watching all the Baseball, Football, Basketball. The passion and support for the teams here is amazing! I love it.

Sorry, Megan Reneau. Ohio State beat one of my teams (Oregon), so we can't be friends. Just kidding. :D
I went to your IMDb page and saw you worked on THE LAST OF US. I started watching that show last week. It's intense! I've seen playthroughs of the games, so I know what's gonna happen, but it's great to see the games as a show. I like the new parts they added to the show.

Maurice Vaughan BAHAHAHAHA I understand... and honestly I think Ohio and even more so Cleveland fans are still a bit in shock that they won something. Its their spirit that is contagious they really do stand behind their teams even tho they don't always get to where they want. I love all of the states for their intensity and love for their teams. Its awesome.
The Last Of US was amazing to work on. I sadly wasn't brought on for stunts, but I was every part of the journey. Most my friends got on for stunts. I did some TAD work on it, had some days with 300 BG that we had to coordinate and it was awesome. Being on big sets like that, you are in awe and questioning what is your life all the time. Its great. The Actors were awesome and so many good stories there. They were great to work with. I learned a lot from that set.
I am excited to watch TLOU season two and they did a great job making a video game into the series. I cherish my scripts from it!

Mike Childress I find most parents don't like the risks that go with being a stuntman. There are a ton of safety concerns and its understandable. Plus I have see and heard many stories, severe injuries and deaths. We do it because the passion overrides. I love the training and the thrill of doing the job on set. Nothing is like it. We take the risk, and help make our actors look good. Or if we are performing, its a fun opportunity to not always be the double. That's why I always fight for the good stunt people because they risk their lives and deserve respect. Many only want to do stunts for the cool factor. Sure it is cool, but respect for the job is more important.

Mike Childress So far I havent found CGI or SPFX to take much from us. And I think having those as options for the high high risk, is a good idea. It prolongs our bodies to keep doing the stunts we can do safely with much less risk to our bodies. I don't think insurance will change because sometimes a low risk stunt is more dangerous because its perceived as low risk. I was doing a stunt where i only had to fall in a crowd. I opened my eye to realize i was mm away from having a nail go right through it because I didn't check where I thought I was falling, which may not have been the same even if i checked because sometimes you don't fall where planned. And no departments checked it either. That's one example. Can't lower production costs on any stunt. Most stunt accidents are caused from minor overlooked things, not always to do with high risk. High risk at least they usually do check things more thoroughly because its perceived as high. It'll be interesting to see how CGI and SPFX keep going. But even then, motion cap still offers another way to do stunts even with the change with CGI etc. Human movement can't fully be replicated by computers yet.

Wow, Megan Reneau! 300 BG is a lot! I can only imagine what it took to coordinate those scenes. I'm looking forward to TLOU season two as well! They cast Kaitlyn Dever in season two. She's one of my favorite actresses.
I'm looking forward to your podcast! Yeah, you can add the link in Links on your profile.

It's great to see you here, Megan Reneau! Speaking of Ohio State, the film office in Columbus is also making moves and being aggressive in trying to bring more production in the area. The film commissioner there, John Daugherty, is a big supporter of Stage 32. I recommend reaching out to John there (john@filmcolumbus.com) and let him know that you've moved to Ohio and see if there are any opportunities coming through his office or if he has direct contacts to any other in-state film offices for you to connect with. Also, not sure if you're in touch with this group or if its valuable to you but check out The Association of Women Drivers (https://www.associationofwomendrivers.com/) - one of the founders, Olivia Summers, is also a friend of the community if helpful.

Mike Childress I think more and more actors are doing more of their own stunts. Some really do try and fight having a double, and want to do at least the smaller ones. Which is great. But if I am acting, and there is a stunt that i can give someone to double me, so they can use it in their reels and it saves my body for another day or another stunt of my own, i fully support it. Actors as much as they'd like to, cant always put years into training for whichever stunt and production cant risk injury delays. I like that they can use tech to face swap. It opens up so many more possibilities. If I am doubling someone and they can put their face on my body, then i don't have to change my movement to hide my face which could actually be safer plus more benefits. Or with the face swaps, I am sure more married actors would love to kiss their partner on set and cgi it to be the other actor. (yes I am laughing at that but I have thought about it and i've seen it done). I think in our industry there will always be a need for movement that ai and cgi will never replace. :) This was a great convo!!

Mike Childress Absolutely. I have also had the "Oh!" moments but usually followed with laughing and wondering and wanting to ask them how many times they had to do it. Sometimes how to replicate, sometimes wondering how much is angles... but yes, many many moments. I think its great you are taking your passion for action and writing for it! I also chuckle a lot when I can see the stunt double. I also get a little bitter when I see something I do wrong. Like welp, that's that.

You're welcome, Megan Reneau. Great. You said you're hoping to expand your knowledge into screenwriting. How long have you been writing scripts?
2 people like this
Maurice Vaughan For writing, I have had a lot of ideas, started some but never finished. Technically been wanting to for probably 15 years, but never really did the things. I admire everyone who writes. I get overwhelmed and don't always know how to get all my ideas into a project, organize the idea etc; and still make it good. I am sure everyone starts there. But, i'd really like to make a better effort now. Plus, I do believe when its hard to break into this industry as an actor and even stunts, it helps to make your own projects. We all have so many stories. It's also nice to make some of your own opportunities till you can get recognized. If it helped me break into roles for acting i that would be great. If I end up being a good writer, I'd love to continue writing more scripts, even if I don't act in them. Anyways, I am excited. When I say I admire writers, I really do. I have a lot of writers I've met before who send me their scripts to read to get my opinion or to see if I am interested in acting in them. I love that.

Do you outline before writing a script, Megan Reneau? That might help you get your ideas into the script and organize the ideas without getting overwhelmed. You might not get all your ideas into the script if you outline though. You'll probably find out that some of the ideas in your outline won't need to be in the script, but you could save the unused ideas for other scripts. I've heard of actors who started writing scripts so they could write roles for themselves. I think it's a great idea.

Maurice Vaughan As much as I would like to say yes I do. I would also start my outlines and not finish them. So I can only put the pie in my own face for why all this has taken me so long. I have started an outline for a pilot episode and doing research for it before I start writing this time. I like what you said and plan on keeping extra ideas for future episodes. What I found too is that keeping another document to keep what I am using, and can add too for future episodes, is plot lines so i dont forget about them or mix things up in my future episodes. I am watching similar genre pilots to get an idea on how they have written them too. So far, I hope I am on the right track. But at least I am finally doing the things and learning from it and all of you! :)

"What I found too is that keeping another document to keep what I am using, and can add too for future episodes, is plot lines so i dont forget about them or mix things up in my future episodes." That sounds kinda like a series bible/pitch bible, Megan Reneau. A series bible is really helpful when outlining and pitching a show.
Anna Henry wrote two blogs for Stage 32 about mapping out a multi-season story I suggest checking out.
