Favorite Book Tropes — Which Ones Do You Love (or Love to Hate)?

As writers and readers, we all have tropes that make us light up when we spot them in a story and others that might feel overdone. Tropes are part of the storytelling toolkit, but how they’re used can make all the difference.

• The Chosen One (H...

I really enjoyed watching Pamela Anderson play Roxy in Chicago - shows she can have diverse talent and did show a different side to herself. I'm glad theatre is back going strong - I love it as much as going to the cinema

Five Rules for Writing by C.S. Lewis:

1. Always try to use the language so as to make quite clear what you mean and make sure your sentence couldn’t mean anything else.

2. Always prefer the plain direct word to the long, vague one. Don’t implement promises, but keep them.

3. Never use abstract nouns when concrete ones will do. If you mean...

George Orwell also had a similar "rules for writing" like this.

Are You Directing in Your Head as You Write a Screenplay?

As I write scenes – and even dialogue, I’m picturing the film – filming of the film. The lighting, the background, and the music or noise surrounding my characters. I’ve recently realized (beat) I want to direct my indie! I have no idea how to be a DIRECTOR, but get this… my producer/director is ent...

I definitely view my script as a movie when I’m writing it lol right down to how the characters should act so it’s always fun and a bit jarring doing table reads where I’m humbled xD it’s definitely an exercise in letting go but maybe I will get into directing one day, who knows?

Lauren Hackney

Oh, I do this when I write but I didn't think it was like directing! Now the thought has been entertained.... great post Debbie Seagle

Don't sweat the details. The purpose of the first draft it to get to the end! I know this sounds obvious, but many aspiring writers fail because they expect the first draft to feel 'polished'. Just get the words down, and worry about how good they are later. Best of luck!
