Back to the Past

I'm always amazed at the progression that things take to become what they are today. From cars, to architecture, to instruments and food, everything has a history and a story. So what about the history of CGI? Inspired by the first photos of Mars, here is the birth of the first movie with CGI. I won...

The original Westworld movie is legendary. One for serious film heads to check out!

Sam Sokolow

The original Westworld movie is amazing and Yul Brenner is outstanding in it. Especially given the modern reboot, it's worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it. How ahead of the curve was Michael Crighton by the way?

Tom Lapke

It is wild to think that Tron was denied an oscar nom for FX because it used CGI.

Kerry Kennard

Fx has really progressed; from Tron, to Matrix movies, to today’s FX.

I’ve been watching some of the old Star Wars movies, and how they used between some of the scenes; i’m not sure if it’s the style from the movies or only what CGI they had at the time.

Gladiotor 2 Trailer

Cutting trailers is an art unto itself. Ridley Scott's films are always edited beautifully and his film's trailers can really pull you in. This looks pretty amazing. And Denzel is quite a get. What do you think of the trailer? https://variety.com/2024/film/news/gladiator-2-trailer-paul-mescal-pedro....

Tom Lapke

I am going to call an Oscar Nom for Denzel now.

Ashley Renee Smith

He honestly looks SO cool in the trailer, Tom Lapke! He's stealing the scenes before the movie even starts.

Geoff Hall

I like the look of it, but the music is an awful fit.

For years the first Gladiator was my favorite film, I'm hoping this one delivers as well.

Newcastle lands a post facility

Global production continues to grow and it's nice to see the UK making investments and expanding. I hope this bodes well for production across the board in Northern England and beyond. https://www.insidermedia.com/news/national/post-production-agency-to-lau......

Newcastle Post, and Newcastle Ale. I'll drink to that!

Pat Alexander

Pretty sure the new Danny Boyle film "28 Years Later" filmed in Newcastle recently. It's becoming a hot spot. The great Ken Loach made a few of his later films including I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You in the area.

Daniel Husbands

I also hope this means positive movement in UK productions, they've got a lot of talent.

Sam Sokolow
Zemeckis' new film looks amazing (and risky)

The first release photos look amazing - the de-aging tech is getting better - and the bold decision to make an entire feature where the camera never moves must take a tremendous amount of VFX and editing technique to remain vibrant, in motion and interesting. I cannot wait to see this film (Zemeckis...

Agreed, Paul Rivers - the trailer looks so interesting.

Pat Alexander

Not in love with de-aging, but this looks like a proper experiment to check out from a great director!

Tom Lapke

The de-aging of DeNiro in The Irishman was an abomination. I really hope it has come further since then. Especially since we know what they looked like when they were young.

Ashley Renee Smith

I tried to show the trailer to my techie-obsessed husband last night and he freaked out saying, "I just can't stop staring at it!" LMAO!

Pat Alexander

Tom Lapke yup that's the main example i have of seeing it too haha

Remote post-production services from Malaga, Spain

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I had to close my studio in Argentina back in 2020 because of the pandemic. I started my career in 1990 when I opened my first music production and recording studio, which in 2001 became almost exclusively a post-production sound studio for film and audiovisual project...

You're welcome, Walder Martinez. Thanks for sharing your process. What's an AAF/stem?

Walder Martinez

I’m sorry, just technical words. An AAF is a file exported from the video editing software that can be loaded into Pro Tools or any other audio program. Stems are just mono or stereo files. Each one corresponds to an audio category:: dialogues, backgrounds, foley, music, etc.

I like the idea of a "Library of streamlining tools" for storytellers to get "Our Art" out of our heads on to a screen for our intended audiences to enjoy but, the AI tool presented in this video simply degraded the image and in it's current state is not useful nor usable.
