As many of you know, I’m not a fan of musicals but this looks like quite an amazing film from Producer-Director-Writer Jacques Audiard and it’s got me curious.
It’s a great video showing the collaboration it took to create the film: from the casting, the cinematography and choreography, production design and music, all worked together to create an outstanding film.
What are your thoughts about the film?

I haven't seen Emilia Perez yet, Geoff Hall. I just found out it was a musical. I heard people talk about the movie, but I didn't hear anyone say it was a musical. I wasn't a fan of musicals until I watched Wonka.

I didn’t know it was a musical Geoff Hall for me it seems more a dramatic genre. Now, I am curious for that mix! I haven’t see it, but I want! I can’t see the link you share because say isn’t allowed in my country:(( Have you seen Emilia Perez already?

Sandra Isabel Correia it’s been panned by a number of critics, but that always leaves me a little more curious! What are they kicking against?
Not allowed in your country? So much for the worldwide part of the web, eh? Have you tried copying the link and putting it in your browser? I’m not sure why it would be available in the UK and not Portugal?

I can't see it, my friend Geoff Hall I believe its because Netflix in Portugal is linked with Spain ( Iberian) and not the UK. We don't see the same you see in UK :( Only if I add a VPN, but I don't need one. I want to see it; its in the cinema in Lisbon :)

Regions might be opposed to a certain depiction which won't be spoiled here.
It's not a musical in the traditional sense, i.e. "West Side Story" and others where the action fully stops for song/dance that depicts the story's emotions.
The shorter music inclusions are seamlessly woven in with sung dialogue, movement with song/dialogue and syncopated actions.
Regardless classifications and content, it is a wonderful film. A must see.

Agreed, E Langley. Its not a direct comparison at all but I'd put it more in the Hamilton lane than in the West Side Story lane. The "music numbers" convey ideas and move the plot forward in a brilliant way. I'm a huge fan of musicals and found the film to be pretty amazing - and I love what it stands for in it's big picture message - but its not for everyone so, like all art, give a watch and see what you think.
