Football Goes Hollywood

I’m going to start this post by saying Go Birds! :D The Eagles and Chiefs are incredible teams. The Super Bowl is going to be a tough game.

I got this email from The Dailies this morning:

The Kansas City Chiefs are joining the Hollywood game by launching their own production studio. The move comes as more major brands step into entertainment, with companies like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks already making content plays of their own. Their new Foolish Club Studios plans to create shows and movies for TV networks and streaming platforms, following the success of their Hallmark romance ‘Holiday Touchdown’ (a Chiefs-themed love story that became Hallmark's #1 cable movie of 2024).

Named after the original team owners who were dubbed the "Foolish Club" for daring to challenge the NFL, the studio will focus on underdog stories both in and outside of sports.

The timing's particularly strategic, using their Super Bowl spotlight this weekend to announce their Hollywood ambitions. For industry watchers, it's another sign that traditional studios are facing fresh competition—this time from brands who want to tell their own story, their own way.

I think we’re going to see more and more major brands get involved with entertainment. How do you think this move will benefit brands? And what brands do you think will step into entertainment next?

I read about Foolish Club Studios - it's a fascinating play. Sports content - or sports-related content - is gigantic, from all of the documentaries (30 FOR 30, UNTOLD, Vice's new BRADY VS BELICHECK that had their highest rated premiere ever, Netflix's F1 series, et al) to scripted films and series (ALL AMERICAN, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, CHALLENGERS). The leagues want more entertainment and all have their own cable networks. The Yankees have the YES network. The Mannings have Omaha Productions. LeBron's Spring Hill is now a 200 employee full service studio making films and shows across the board. This move makes sense - why only be a subject when you can be a producer and owner. It will be interesting to see what projects they do and how they run their business model but I do expect to see more. Will be watching this closely. Awesome share, Maurice Vaughan.

I agree, Dan MaxXx. I can see OnlyFans being a legitimate 24/7 network. I've heard that some people set up OnlyFans accounts to have private chats about different things. Maybe something for indie producers, big studios, movie companies, etc. to think about doing for their new and upcoming movies, shows, games, and so on to please and grow their fan bases.

Yeah, it seems like sports content and sports-related content are everywhere, Sam Sokolow. I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick Mahomes and other NFL stars start acting in the movies, shows, etc. that Foolish Club Studios makes.
