Producing : The Brutalist is far to long. by Willem Elzenga

The Brutalist is far to long.

"The Brutalist," has garnered significant attention for its extensive runtime of 3 hours and 35 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Despite its length, many critics praise the film's pacing and narrative structure. For instance, a review from MeriStation México notes that "despite its extensive duration of three hours and a half, the movie has an agile rhythm and is divided into two parts with an intermission."

Similarly, Screen Rant describes the film as "a colossal achievement (-), balancing intimacy and scale at every level of craft," emphasizing that "every second is well spent."

However, some reviews suggest that the film's length may pose challenges (-). The Nightly comments that while the first half is "a flawless piece of cinema," the second half becomes "more narratively muddled" after the intermission.

Overall, "The Brutalist" is considered a monumental work that justifies its extended runtime through its storytelling and cinematic execution.

This is the internet marketing campaign talking. Would you go watch a 4 hour feature in your neighbourhood cinema?

The only way I'd watch a movie that long (in theaters or on streaming) is if it was really unique and exciting, Willem Elzenga. I'd probably watch it in parts if I saw it on streaming.

I have no problem watching very long movies as long as they’re good. Personally, I tend to love long movies that are well crafted and take the time to develop character and the intricacies and subtleties of the story. I often feel movies could be better if they were a little longer and more attention was paid to letting the story breathe a little bit. I haven’t seen The Brutalist yet, but I want to. It’s length actually makes me feel it might be the kind of story I want to watch

I agree with Dan MaxXx - the length didn't bother me and I thought it was a remarkable cinematic feat. I, personally, didn't love everyting about the film - especially some things the last 30 minutes - but I was amazed by it and appreciated it. Some people loved PTA's There Will Be Blood more than I did but I appreciated the cinematic achievement. I would not be surprised if it wins Best Picture at this year's Oscars.

I don't have the patience to watch 3 and half hours someone elses turd. Let's stick to 95 minutes, that's long enough to me and I am already 49 years old!
