Screenwriting : AI Reviews by Lonnie James

AI Reviews

I use AI to read my scripts for various projects and have it give me feedback and review. I feel this process is amazing for quick feedback, although I still have human Readers when available to read my scripts as well. My findings so far, is the AI says quite a bit in line with human Readers yet, is also far more critical and honest than some of my readers so far.

Rather it's scripts for my youtube videos, series, or more official scripts. With it, im able to quickly fix errors and make adjustments to my script. However, I don't have it make characters or plot lines as it's suggestions of entertainment seem to always fall flat for me. How many others use AI for strictly review purposes?

Dan, very good article. Big takeaway is studios are investing in AI companies, and not suing the AI companies because the studios are allowing, under fair use, their shows to train AI. Studios are doing LTP (long term planning). This is the asteroid coming, and it will make a direct hit.

Lonnie, I've been using AI to evaluate my own scripts, too...specifically, tools such as https://ScriptReader.ai and https://screenplayiq.com.

As a whole, they've been nicer to me than the people I've pitched to here on Stage 32. And I'm looking into using ScreenplayIQ and ScriptReader to help make my own pitches better...so, next time I come here to pitch to someone here on 32, I'll have a better chance.

Might use AI to flesh out story ideas of mine beyond my own loglines...but I'm not going to use it to write a whole script.

Haven't tried it but I might.

AI is the fifth Industrial Revolution coming online..

It's a great technology. I find a lot of it's feedback, even advanced models, to be a little bland, generic, and... well, inhuman. But it is great at edits and broad strokes.

Craig Anderson

I have used it for selective scene feedback, and find it does pretty well. But it's simply a tool to me to perhaps unlock something, as I don't use it to write any part of the script for me, more just a guide if I'm struggling to figure something out. It's a bit of a flashpoint topic, as people like Nic Cage have come out in force against its use, suggesting it curbs true creativity.

Ewan Dunbar

I’ve read script coverage from AI and found it covered a lot of bases and could break down individual characters and the events, but it couldn’t pick up on subtext and tensions caused by what isn’t said between characters. It is definitely weighted towards the obvious stuff that’s going on but emotional nuance still needs a human reader.

Mike Childress It will give you information on grammar, act structure, where script stories fall into lulls, and various other things. It really gives you a broad coverage of the entire script in seconds. Though, the more specific you are the more detailed and helpful it'll be. I have a certification in AI usage and I use AI on a regular for fun.

Craig Anderson Same, plus I've had AI write test scripts off my prompts and find the story it tells just lacks something I can definitely do better. Though when it comes to structure and industry standard feedback, i find that great as a new screenwriter.

John C. Bounds I recommend trying it, even if it is ChatGPT, though someone mentioned some more scriptwriting focused AI here as well which may be better.
