You get a pitch meeting for your TV series concept, now what? You’re in the room and you’ll obviously want to be prepared.
Know your pilot script. Know the characters. Know the arcs. Know the audience. Know the shows that are similar in vein to what you’re pitching. This will allow you to be conversational, which is key in pitching. You won’t need to be working from a script and risk sounding overly canned. You’ll just be talking. Plain and simple.
Know your first season. Know it well. It can’t just be about the pilot. How many pilot episodes have we seen, for high concept shows especially, that quickly flame out after the first episode, leaving the concept nowhere to go (these are pilots that likely are better suited as features). Know the character arcs. Know where the story and concept is going to take an audience. Know how many episodes the season would likely be, which also means know what type of show this is (is it a serial type of show, miniseries, procedural, etc.). You need to know the beginning, middle, end, and the big surprise that would take the show into season two, leaving audiences (and the powers that be) wanting more.

Thanks for the advice, Tammy Hunt! I'm better at pitching features and shorts. Pitching TV is still tricky for me, but your tips will definitely help. I'm saving your advice. Thanks again!
