Screenwriting : My western movie by Jerry Robbins

Jerry Robbins

My western movie

Hi all, I posted last year when the western I wrote, CATCH THE BULLET, started filming in Wyoming. It's my second sale, but the first one to be shot and completed.

The studio released the trailer this week, and while I am over the moon to see it, it's sad at the same time, as the star of the movie, Jay Pickett, passed away July 30th on the set of another western. I was thrilled when I found out he would be playing the lead, and he nailed it with a wonderful performance. His passing has taken the joy out of the upcoming release, but I am forever grateful to him for believing in the script and bringing my favorite character to life in this movie.

When I started writing this script, a friend of mine said I was crazy because "they don't make westerns anymore." I knew they did, but I also knew the chances were slim of getting anywhere with it. The script was found on Inktip, and six months later I got a call that they wanted to buy it.

The whole experience is surreal, especially seeing the trailer.

I'm posting the trailer page here - (I'll remove it if this is against the rules!)

Thanks!! Ahi - yes, feeling really good, but there's a sadness about it with the leading actor having just passed away. Karen - lol, thank you!

Abdallah Saleh

Got a feeling a lot of the commenters aren't gonna read past the second sentence. Anyway congrats and it's sad about his passing. Such is life.

Kiril Maksimoski

Looking good, Jerry....and they make all things all the time if script is spot on.

Seun Arowojolu

Karen "Kay" Ross, if you ever get to check out Jerry's brilliant film you may want to keep an eye out for a cast member you might recognise.

Laurie Woodward

Congratulations! The trailer is compelling drawing the viewer into the story of a kidnapped boy. Sorry to hear about Jay Pickett. I hope you find comfort in knowing that this film gave him the opportunity to expand his craft and express his unique talents. Best of luck in the release.

Jim Boston

Jerry, congratulations on getting "Catch the Bullet" made!

All the VERY BEST to you, the cast, and the crew! (And I'm sorry to hear that Jay Pickett has passed away...but he still brought a lot of great things to the table.)

Craig D Griffiths

Well done. You wouldn’t have to go back far to find comments like “No one buys westerns”. Hmmm. Something tells me these people may not know that good work sells regardless of genre.

TJ Colvin

Jerry, this looks great! Looking forward to seeing it.

Jeffrey Milne

Well done Jerry, It looks great.

Jerry Robbins

Thanks, Jim. Jay was a great guy. I never got to meet him, but he sent me some wonderful comments when they were shooting, and even after it wrapped. Everyone said he was a kind man, no ego, and everyone just loved working with him.

Jerry Robbins

Thank you, everyone! I appreciate it!

Nick Brown
