Alright. I did it.
As of yesterday, I finished the first drft of my very first rom-com.
Here are the details:
TITLE: Yup…Another Stupid Rom-Com Story
FORMAT: Feature
GENRE: Romantic Comedy
LOGLINE: Forced to find a "plus-one" or be banished from his best friend's wedding, an irresponsible groomsman must team up with a hopelessly romantic bridesmaid to plan the pre-wedding festivities – a recipe for disaster, and maybe, just maybe, true love.
COMPS: WHEN HARRY MET SALLY meets BRIDESMAIDS
SETTING: Spring has sprung, and love is supposedly everywhere. But in a city divided by those coupled up and those decidedly not, the pressure to find "the one" is reaching a fever pitch. This hilarious and heartwarming story follows two individuals navigating the chaotic landscape of modern dating, proving that maybe, just maybe, finding your own kind of happiness doesn't always follow the expected script.

Sounds interesting, last bit of the setting as well.

Congratulations on finishing the first draft, Anthony McBride! Unique Rom-Com idea. I'm not sure about the title. It says "But in a city divided by those coupled up and those decidedly not" in the setting. Maybe try to come up with a title about that.

Hi Anthony, A couple of observations on your logline.
- You've given your hero two different goals that don't seem related - finding a 'plus-one' as his date for the wedding to avoid being 'banished', and then having to team with a bridesmaid to plan the pre-wedding festivities. If the obstacles he faces are related (besides sharing the same wedding location), look for a way to connect them.
- When the hero 'must' team up with another character, bake in some conflict to increase the stakes, e.g., the hero is cynical (not just irresponsible) while she is romantic.
Best of luck! I see potential in there!
