FAMILY MATTERS - FEATURE
By Roberta M Roy

GENRE: Science Fiction, Drama
LOGLINE:

The fallout from a not-too-distant nuclear meltdown separates parents from one another and from their sons, who flee; the mother suffers radiation sickness; the father suffers memory loss and physical coordination difficulties due to brain injury from the force of an IED explosion, yet they struggle forward, intent on not only survival, but reunion.

SYNOPSIS:

It is said that after a nuclear event, if one can walk away, one will live. Family Matters follows those who walked away.

When the meltdown at Magdum Heights Nuclear Power Plant occurs Mary Matters’ concerns prove true. Seeking to escape radiation, families either separate or come together. The Matters sons take to the road to escape fallout and mass migration affects everyone, far and near. And in a distant small village, friends, lovers, and families team to respond to the forced mass migration. Residents set up a point of distribution to decontaminate, feed, house, clothe, and medically care for the hundreds of forced migrants.

Mary and Lou Matters’ preparation of their sons, Jason and Marty, as to what to do in case of an area’s nuclear plant meltdown provides an escape but no resolution. Lem, a retired military veteran, and his friend, Thaw, understand what needs be done to feed, clothe, house, and medically care for the forced migrants fleeing nuclear fallout that over run their small village and provide the necessary leadership. Star-crossed lovers Natalie and Thaw seem destined to never unite until in responding to the needs of forced migrants, somehow, their differences resolve. A heartwarming story of families and community working together to survive the effects of a nuclear meltdown.

Family Matters is based on Roy’s award-winning novel, Jolt: a rural noir.

Award Winner, 2024 New York International Women Festival.

Semi Finalist, 2024 Atlantic Movie Awards

Hi, Roberta M Roy. It's hard to tell who the main character is from the logline.

Good insight. They're many main characters

Ok, I see, Roberta M Roy. The focus is on the family as a whole.

"Forced migrants fleeing fallout." That's kind of a tongue twister. I suggest changing one of those words so you don't have three words starting with "F."

"Where residents, led by an artist and a retired veteran scramble to meet their needs." I think that needs a better flow.
