Growing up, Aliya J'mari moved almost every year and coped by writing fictional stories about each “life” she lived. Her adaptability translated into a lifelong love of adventure, leading to Thailand where she worked as a nanny for a government official's family and Mexico where she lived a traditional Mayan existence, from sleeping in hammocks in the jungle to participating in shaman-led cleansing rituals. Currently, Aliya is a member of The Writer's Room Collective in Atlanta. She is also an actress, most recently appearing in the coming-of-age film, Eighteen. Aliya is a proud graduate of Howard University, where she studied Television Production with a Minor in Theatre Arts.
