Kia Barbee

Kia is an avid storyteller, creative producer and playwright. Her most current play Roommates was performed at the Wild Project Theater (NYC) as a featured playwright in the Fresh Fruit Festival. Kia has received showcases at Jeff Daniel’s Purple Rose Theater Company and Naked Angels Theater’s First Monday Series (Roommates). Additionally, her plays have been presented by the National Black Theater Festival, New Freedom Theater, HERE Arts Center and other venues around New York City.

As a producer and creative consultant, Kia has worked with award winning filmmakers and screenwriters. Kia’s TV pilots have been finalists in competitions such as Austin Film Festival and NY Film & Stage Filmmakers Workshop.

Kia founded and produces ScriptRead, a quarterly stage reading series to highlight diverse writers. She is currently developing a time travel satire anthology series and writing a supernatural themed novel, The Rebirth.
