Born and brought up in Kolkata, Yudhajit was always interested in the art of cinema. After doing one year of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, he dropped out of college and joined St.Xaviers and did his graduation in Mass Communication and Videography.
After graduation he made two films Khoji and Quiro with Prithvijoy Ganguly under the banner of U Turn Pictures. While these films were globally screened at various festivals he joined Film and Television Institute of India in Direction Department in 2017. In 2020 his FTII documentary film 'Kalsubai' won the Grand Prize at Oberhausen ISFF and went to over twenty national and international film festivals including IDFA, Sheffield Docs, Visions Du Rèel among others and was nominated for Oscars at IDA Documentary shorts at LA. He had been invited to participate in Opening Scenes Lab at 52nd edition of Visions du Réel, Switzerland, which is a special programme for the 16 filmmakers selected globally where 'Kalsubai' had its World Premiere.
His latest short film "Nehemich" has been Officially Selected at Festival De Cannes’ La Cinef Section 2023.
