I'm backing into the movie business because my father was a well-known Czech song writer, cabaret artist, actor and director known for the songs of Old Prague. But he was also very political and wrote songs making fun of politicians, and satirized the Nazis, which led to he death at Mauthausen a month after I was born. I'm a journalist turned entrepreneur so am learning the movie business by the seat of the pants. I was born in Prague, grew up i Australia and now live in the US, so I'm on my third citizenship... The photo shiows me with a statue of my father, Karel Hasler, on the castle steps in Prague. Fifteen years ago we made a documentary in Prague about my search for the father I never met, The Immortal Balladeer of Prague. It was made with the Czech Film School, and at the time Pavel Jech led it. A few months ago I contacted Pavel again - he now teaches in California. He works with Harold Apter, who teaches at USC. They made a mini series in 2018 called Lync, about the lynching of a Roma or gypsy. Harold has a relationship with the head of content development at Czech TV. They plan to pitch my story next month! My mother was German so it would make sense to seek a German coproducer. Stay tuned!
