I was born in Chicago and attended St. Sabina Catholic Elementary school on the South side. My parents decided to return to their Mississippi home when I started high school and basically changed my life. I'm sure if I had stayed in the Windy City, I'd be a doctor now.
I attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, where I majored in Broadcast Journalism with the intent of becoming a journalist. But I soon discovered that I didn't have the personality to ask someone what they felt after their kids had been murdered. I'd much rather just make up the whole scenario. Therefore, I started writing screenplays. (Novels take far too many words.)
Before I knew it (well, actually five years after I started sending scripts out), I was approached by an exec at ABC Television who thought I had some talent. He introduced me to Aaron Spelling who put me under contract and paid for me to relocate to Los Angeles.
In addition to writing screenplays, I also recently started writing middle grade novels. To keep a roof over my head, I teach middle grades language arts and social studies. My favorite things to do are read books (and junk on the internet), and watch old TV shows (from back when it was worth watching) and movies.
