David Coffey is a multi-skilled and multi-talented individual. Currently retired, working part time as a Georgia state licensed private detective, a certified professional security officer, and a certified professional martial arts instructor. He is also an; actor, comedian, published writer, lyricist, cartoonist, illustrator, graphic designer, photographer, musician and artist with many years of professional experience, knowledge and expertise. He also works in the many areas of the investigative services such as surveillance, digital forensics, executive protection, security consulting, loss prevention, as well as I.T. security and technical support.
He actively continues teaching and studying the martial arts, performing arts, photography and writing. He also retired from the information technology and communications industry, where he spent most of his career working with large corporate companies (IBM, ADP) and government agencies, performing in high profile, administrative, technical and executive roles. During his career he also worked with a special operations department and earned top security clearance with local, state and federal agencies (NCIC & GCIC).
He has many years experience in the Martial Arts and fitness industry and he has been teaching professionally for over 20 years. He holds a black belt rank in Tang Soo Do and has studied and pursued ranks in various other traditional styles of the Martial Arts including: Jeet Kune Do, Kenpo Karate, Hapkido, Ju Jitsu, Musashi Do and American Karate. His second-generation lineage stems from Mr. Ed Parker, Mr. Al Tracy and Mr. Chuck Norris, his third-generation lineage stems from the legendary Bruce Lee. He was awarded Most Outstanding Student in 1993, and made instructor in 1995. Mr. Coffey began his formal training in the martial arts in the summer of 1973, however he started taking private lessons (Japanese Ju-Jitsu) from his father as early as 1968.
He has trained and taught many students throughout his career including; military, special forces, law enforcement and security personnel, celebrities, actors, professional stunt performers and martial artists ranging from the most experienced to the very beginner, of various martial arts styles and systems from all over the world. He specializes in training techniques, fight scene choreography for TV/film, and for professional martial arts demonstrations and exhibitions.
As a recognized professional judging official, Mr. Coffey continues to serve in local, regional and national tournaments. He was inducted into Joe Corley’s Battle of Atlanta’s, Officials Hall of Fame in 2007. He is a proud member of the United and American Fighting Arts Federations, The World Tang Soo Do, Mu Duk Kwan, World Black Belt Federations, as well as other formal martial arts systems, styles, fitness and professional sports organizations.
David Coffey has performed on stage many times as a stand-up comedian, a ventriloquist and with various musical performing groups. He also has worked as a sound/light operator for several productions and stage plays and has been a still photographer for both professional performers and musical groups.
