Writer/Director/Producer Michigan, 1953 - Frank Shankwitz is only ten years old when he is kidnapped by his mother, Lorraine, and hidden from his beloved father, Frank Sr. After months on the road, Frank and Lorraine settle in Arizona. Unable to track each other down, the two Franks spend the next 28 years apart. It's 1980, and Frank Shankwitz is a motorcycle cop with the Arizona Highway Patrol. After a high speed pursuit ends in a near-fatal accident, Frank endures months of rehabilitation. His first assignment back on duty is to oversee a police department visit of Michael, a young boy with leukemia. Frank and Michael forge an unexpected bond before the boy succumbs to his terminal illness and Frank attends Michael's funeral in Illinois. By chance, Frank Sr. notices a picture of his son and Michael in the newspaper. After 28 years, Frank Sr. finally tracks down his son and they are reunited. To honor Michael and to thank him for bringing him and his father back together, Frank starts the Make-A-Wish foundation.
