An everyday, straight-laced couple becomes involved in a drug ring, and get in way over their heads.
SYNOPSIS:
Gary Vernon is an honest, hard-working man. He is a computer network specialist for the technology firm AccuCom in Chicago. He and his wife, Connie, lead an ordinary, mundane existence. Until now.
After a long day at work, Gary goes outside his apartment for a breath of fresh air. It is here where he meets Peter Branch, an accountant and fellow resident of the same apartment complex. Peter invites Gary into his flat, as Gary is taken by Peter’s prestigious possessions. Curious as to how Peter attained all of this, Gary inquires him.
He soon learns that Peter and his wife, Pamela, are involved in a successful but clandestine drug ring with some men in Panama. Peter then asks Gary to join the drug ring, using the technology at Accucom to sell and keep track of the drugs. Gary is hesitant, but soon concedes. The Branches and Vernons operate the drug ring without a hitch, as their income escalates.
However, the operation soon experiences a setback, as Peter reveals to Gary that he and Pamela are moving to Miami. Peter hands the reigns of the drug ring over to a reluctant Gary. Meanwhile, at DEA Headquarters in New York, Detective Mel Capra is desperately trying to unravel the drug ring in Chicago, but has no leads. He decides to travel down to Panama to investigate. While there, Mel is shanghaied and held captive in an abandoned warehouse by two Panamanian drug lords, Hernando Cabrera and Miguel Sanchez. While held captive, Mel learns about the drug ring.
Back in Chicago, Gary and Connie are running the drug ring to perfection, with the help of Ken Damon, a furtive but flaky deliveryman. However, the Vernons’ finances, as well as their marriage, soon run into trouble.
To make matters worse, Connie and Gary begin using the drugs themselves on a daily basis. Despite it all, they persist and celebrate the holidays. They are about to ring in the New Year in a big way. Or so they think…
