About Gudmund

Gudmund Helmsdal is a filmmaker based in the Faroe Islands. A life long film buff, he holds a masters degree in Film Arts from Copenhagen University. He has been working in the film industry films in Denmark, Australia and the Faroe Islands, as well as studying Chinese Culture and language in Beijing, China.

He draws his main inspiration from Faroese culture, history, myths and legends as well as the multitude of global classic and contemporary cinema and literature. Gudmund has made a number of short films during his studies and as an independent filmmaker. Brother Troll is his first venture onto the international festival circuit. It has been selected for 91 festivals so far including Fantasia and L.A. Shorts and has won 76 awards in various categories, including best short and best director.

Genre films are his passion and he is currently working on expanding the universe established in Brother Troll into a feature northern western, as well as working on a war picture titled A Dangerous Voyage, taking place on a 19th century Faroese sail ship during WW2. Additionally he is developing distinctly Faroese horror story and a scripted action adventure cooking show with a body count, tentatively titled Enter the Kitchen.
