In 2012, Kelvin established the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, a project born from his desire to celebrate and support filmmakers from Wales and beyond. With the ethos of “watching films, not competition,” the festival was designed to be a welcoming and inclusive event that emphasises the craft of storytelling rather than rivalry.
Under Kelvin’s leadership, CBFF has grown exponentially and is now one of Wales’s most significant film festivals. It is accredited by BAFTA for the British Short Film Competition, BAFTA Cymru Awards and BAFTA Scotland Awards, making it a qualifying event for prestigious awards.
Advocacy for Welsh Culture
Kelvin has used the festival to champion Welsh culture and language. By encouraging the submission of Welsh-language films and collaborating with local organisations, he has ensured that Wales's rich heritage is showcased on an international stage. This commitment has helped to amplify Welsh voices in the global filmmaking community.
Supporting Independent Filmmakers
Kelvin’s passion extends beyond the festival itself. He is a vocal advocate for independent filmmakers, offering them opportunities to network, share their work, and connect with industry professionals. His vision for CBFF as a creative hub has made it a vital stepping stone for many aspiring filmmakers.
Legacy and Impact
Kelvin Guy’s dedication to cinema and his community has left an indelible mark on Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, and beyond. The festival has attracted filmmakers and cinephiles to the region and fostered a greater appreciation for the art of filmmaking within the local community.
Kelvin’s tireless efforts have earned him widespread respect as the founder of CBFF and as a cultural ambassador for Wales. His work continues to inspire, proving that a small town like Llanelli can significantly impact the global stage.
Looking Ahead
Kelvin remains committed to its growth and evolution, and the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival is now firmly established as a key event in the cinematic calendar. His vision for the future includes further integration of digital platforms to reach global audiences while maintaining the festival’s community roots.
Throughout his career, Kelvin has taken on various roles in the film industry, including producer, director, screenwriter, and researcher. His filmography includes producing “The Dancer & the Boy” (2014) and acting in “Shadow of the Missing” (2018).
Under his leadership, CBFF has grown significantly, expanding its portfolio to include other festivals such as the Ffresh Talent Film Festival and the International Media Festival of Wales. Kelvin is also an associate member of BAFTA Cymru and the Royal Television Society, and a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
In addition to his festival work, Kelvin has been involved in various aspects of filmmaking, including acting, producing, and contributing to art departments.

Inspired by Hedd Wyn; created by John Parr
‘A Pack of Five’ is a short film inspired by the Welsh war poet Ellis Evans, who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele, 31st July 1917. Evans was known as Hedd Wyn (Blessed Peace) - his bardic name, under which he wrote and posthumously won the National Eisteddfod Chair.
Over a hundred years on from the “War to end all Wars”, over 180 million soldiers have been killed across countless battlefields throughout the world; together with millions of civilian men, women and children. As relevant now as when Hedd Wyn wrote ‘Rhyfel’ (War), his words and sentiment continue to resonate within the hearts of all those that hear them.
Written and directed by John Parr, A Pack of Five tells the story of five battle weary soldiers who meet in a moment of calm and share a cigarette from a pack of five. Unknown to each other it soon becomes clear that they share more than a smoke and that each of them had a connection to Evans; Hedd Wyn.
His writing, his story, his sacrifice to save his younger brothers from the carnage of the Front and the tragic loss of a generation that he exemplified, speaks to this day, not only for the people of Wales but for the entire world.
Written and directed by John Parr and featuring Rhodri Evan, Simon Nehan, Scott Gutteridge, Ddraig Williams and Rhodri Lewis.
