Creative Growth Check-In: Passing It Forward

This week, I’ve been spending my evenings back where it all started, virtually guest lecturing for my alma mater, Columbia College Chicago. I’ve been talking with graduating seniors about creative community, authentic networking, and what it really looks like to step into this industry, all the things we talk about here every day.

I do this every semester, and it’s always one of the most energizing experiences of my year.

There’s something really special about engaging with people who are right at the beginning of their journey, adult life, and career, asking thoughtful, curious questions, and trying to figure out how to navigate what comes next. I get to share what I’ve learned, point them toward resources on Stage 32, and hopefully make that transition into the industry feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more possible.

What’s been especially inspiring this time around is how much the conversation has shifted. Students are asking about global opportunities, international productions, and how to build careers that aren’t limited by geography. Even just a few years ago, that wasn’t something that came up during these conversations. It’s a reminder of how quickly things are evolving, and it makes me really optimistic about where this industry is headed.

It’s also a good reminder for me, too, that growth isn’t just about what we’re learning, but what we’re sharing and how we’re showing up for others. We're lucky to do that all the time here in the Stage 32 Community, and I love seeing it happening outside of our platform as well.

What about you? What have you been doing recently that’s pushing you to grow, learn something new, or expand your creative horizons?
