Looks the producer behind Shōgun and Tokyo Vice is talking about a big problem their success created. It turns out that Japan doesn't have enough soundstages, equipment, or trained crews to handle all the new projects that want to film there after seeing how well those shows did. It's a classic "good problem to have" but a real bottleneck for the industry. It makes you wonder, with everyone looking for the next fresh location, what country or region is poised to become the next big filming hotspot? This was actually a huge reason why White Lotus ended up choosing Thailand as their location because Japan didn't meet their production and tax incentive needs! It's also interesting to think since Japan has birthed some of the greatest films ever, and more recently, a lot of attention around their video games industry and now TV industry; interesting that they must catch up now but does this have to do with the rising costs domestically and lowering costs internationally?
