Short scripts aren’t just calling cards — they’re career starters.

There’s still a misconception that short scripts are just practice runs or passion projects. But history (and the industry) tells a different story. The Oscars have honored shorts since 1933. Directors like Sofia Coppola, Martin McDonagh, and Wes Anderson all jump-started their careers with them. And to this day, top festivals like Sundance and Cannes actively seek them out.

We wrote a blog a while back that still holds weight: Why screenwriters should write short scripts.

It explores how shorts can help you build credits, land representation, attract funding for features, and stand out in a crowded marketplace. The article also features insight from working writers and producers who’ve used shorts as a launching pad, and how you can do the same.
