About Nick

I am a composer: for film, media and music's own sake.

Growing up with a love for the fictional, books, film and images, music's ability to emotionally engage, breathe life into and lead us through a narrative is a big part of what drives me creatively. Whether it's music for its own sake or composing to picture, finding this story in a piece of music is where sound starts for me. Along with music, a big interest in art (having studied Fine Art whilst early in my musical career) has also played an influence, helping to better understand how music can 'speak' with a visual's mood, colour and narrative.

Having been led through many different musical settings, composing has always been at the heart of what I've done. My core influences are routed in jazz and classical music, however inspiration is vast and so I enjoy drawing from across the board of genres. My musical experience has ranged from stage to studio; starting as a saxophonist and pianist exploring London's Jazz scene, playing with and composing for groups of varying genres, working as a session-player, and finding my passion in film-scoring and music for image.

Since then, I've immersed myself in the many facets of composing, exploring my love for musical story-telling. I avidly made contact with the film industry and subsequently worked on films, teasers and advertising for TV & Cinema with directors and agencies from around the world (including BETC, Lexitricity, MJZ, Ragged Crow, Qdubs and Green Snapper); and I have had the honour to receive such accolades including final nominations for the Indy Awards (2007), Teaserland Festival (2009) and the International Music and Sound Awards (2013); and winning the 2013 Music and Sound Award for 'Best Composition in Cinema Advertising' for Pearl And Dean's 2012 ad campaign.

Unique traits: Music and food are a great combination. Cooking, although a hobby, is my other passion.
