I've written 2 pilots and a feature length film and I want to get my work in front of an agent or film company. I'm in Atlanta. Does anyone know someone or some group or event I can engage to participate getting my script read ?
Not exactly but you may check out LA TVwriters since you have two pilots. While they are based in LA they will accept a few people from the non-LA area especially if you are intending to move to the LA area. They have some pretty cool meet-ups from what I followed and may be in "the know" for the Atlanta scene, not sure. Depends a bit if you have a website, quality of the work you have, etc. I like stage32 and social media but there's nothing like the real thing of being in front of people with real face time. I would chat a while let them get to know you a bit before just coming out and saying hey, know where I can find an agent. If there is any one thing I've learned it is that there is no such thing as instant gratification in this business. There is a TVwriters website too and don't forget Stage 32 Happy writers, they are all really good avenues. Some may refer you to Inktip as well. For the group or event thing in real face-time I reccommmend LAtvwriters, for online events you can't beat Stage 32 Happy Writer's events.
There are plenty of competitions that can get your pilot or feature in front of someone in the biz, just ignore any that do not offer producers and studios looking at the winning entries - you need to be noticed, so do not look at the money some screenwriting competitions offer. You can also try a company like Voyage Media which will help you market your stuff. You have to be proactive as a writer and promote yourself too. It is easy now to set up a website just for your project at places like Weebly and create a page on Facebook and link to all sorts of social media. Just setting these things up over the past couple of days for one of my projects (a TV series). A look-book and video should also be considered. I hope this helps.
Hey Edmond, I'm right there with you, also trying to find my way to a writer's room. So far, I've found contests, ISA, and Stage 32 to be remarkable resources. We're all learning here. I too will have to look into the LA TVWriter's thing.
