Screenwriting : Notes and Consultation by James Burt

Notes and Consultation

Hi guys, Hope you're having a great December and getting ready for good holidays. I'm a Toronto-based writer, new to Stage 32, and recently had a screenplay reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 Scriptapalooza script contest. It was great fun to be part of but now I'd like to move to the next level. After getting some tips from one of the contest judges, I am in need of some professional consultation. Since I'm based out of the Toronto area, it'd be nice to meet with a professional writer--i.e. one with a representative or agent-- here or in the GTA area that could give me notes on my screenplay and take my career to the next level. I am happy to compensate but would like to negotiate pricing--not to be cheap but just to make sure I can come to the table with adequate payments for the correct professional. If you meet the above description, please message me and we can communicate further. I am serious about this and wish to connect with others with similar aspirations. Many thanks in advance, James B.

I would also highly recommend coverage from Happy Writers, James. I just got back notes from Jessica Kardos for a pilot that I've assumed was finished for the last couple years, but decided to get fresh, professional eyes on it. This turned out to be a GREAT idea, as Jessica provided in-depth coverage, page notes, AND offered something that is extremely helpful when providing a service in this field: SUGGESTIONS! All too often coverage will involve a lot of critiques and criticisms, but rarely have I received coverage with so many great suggestions to make my script better. AND, these are suggestions from an actual exec, not someone outside the industry that proclaims to have all the answers. It's also a great feeling to have any of your own ideas for improvement for your project corroborated by a pro, giving you the confidence to apply and utilize these devices and fixes to take your script to the next level. Can't wait to dive in to re-writes and make my pilot, and my own writing, better! Thanks Joey and Jessica! Mike W.
