Respected Members Greetings to all ! :) I am a Music Composer but I have some basic story ideas which can be developed into Tv series, Movies for Hollywood. Who should I approach ? Thanks
Hi Blair, I suggest approaching a writer to see if you can work in a partnership, or take a stab at writing a first draft yourself! I've moved this post from Anything Goes over to the Screenwriting lounge so the writers can see it. :) Best of luck!
A screenplay writer whose Chick Flick is releasing this summer is interested in writing for me on condition that the finished Script will definitely be produced . Should I try to contact producers, Studios ? Can I hire a writer to develop my ideas into script ? If Yes what will be the costs ?
Lisa. there's nothing wrong with the term chick flick. stop being overly critical. Blair, if you have ideas for a script, then you can hire a consultant to help you flesh them out & gage if they are strong enough ideas to be movies. Or you can just write it yourself. Or you can find a writing partner and collaborate. Or you can hire someone else to write it. If you do the latter, there is no guarantee that it will get made and you can't approach producers because you have nothing to show them. They are not going to buy a pitch from you. If you have an A List (or B+ list) writer willing to write it, then you should develop a pitch with them & their agent should set up pitch meetings for both of you. If they don't have an agent then they're probably not in a place to pitch either. Which leads you back to - hiring someone to write it. Finding a good non WGA writer with some experience will probably cost you between $10-25k to write your script. its not cheap. There are writers you can find for less but they will be new amateur writers and you never know what they will deliver. hope this helps. if you'd like help with your project, I'd be happy to help at www.nobullscript.net.
Hey Blair. There are plenty of solid writers out there solid ideas who are willing to collaborate. Whether they'll write your idea for you depends on what connections you have and your access to funding.
Sure thing, Blair. @George, to be very honest, screenwriting might be free but perfecting your craft and breaking into Hollywood certainly is not. You can work on your script for free and get free feedback from other writers, or join a writers group in your city, but it becomes an expensive hobby once you decide to take it to the next level. Stage 32 is free, but pitching to the execs on here is not. Message boards are free, but the webinars are not. Truth is, if you don't have a few hundred dollars to spend on making your script better by working with a consultant, you probably won't have the money to come to LA, meet with reps or execs, go to pitchfests or pitch execs on stage32 or other venues, or even buy screenwriting software or screenwriting books or classes. Not to mention the money it takes to enter contests - entering the 5 big contests will be just as expensive as hiring a consultant to help you. So, if you really don't have a few hundred to devote to this endeavor, it will be pretty impossible to do much of anything with your script. I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm saying that because it's true. You can only get so far for free. However, that's much different than hiring someone else to write your script for you, which is what Blair was asking about...
Well that's not to pay a consultant to help with your script. That's to pay a writer to write your script from scratch, page 1. And you'd be very surprised how many people do. Very surprised. Happens all the time.
Ya, like I said, there are many people out there who make a lot of money in their fields and want to see their idea turned into a script but don't want to do it themselves. They have the money to spend.
George, this is about the third time I've seen you try to hijack a thread with help for your own work. Do research. That's probably the best way to get the answers you're looking for.
Your lack of professional courtesy was ignored three or four times throughout this thread. Read a book, watch a documentary or message someone in your network. Stop clogging the lounge.
I want to say that Professional Writers deserve 10k -25k for the time and creative input they give. I live in India so 10 k USD is about 621399.50 Indian Rupees as of today exchange rate & 25k USD is 1553498.75 Indian Rupees . The point here is that if one can they will. If one cannot at least they can try to save for their project. Alternatively they can hire writers who are willing to work for free or for a small amount of money. Mr George, You can try posting in Jobs here on this website. I believe there are many talented writers here who will love to be a part of your project. Best wishes. If I can't buy a Mercedes I will buy another cheap car or even a bicycle but I won't be angry and I will appreciate the functions of Mercedes.

Studios and production companies, but you already knew that.
One can always save money. All standard work require patience. :)
