Hey, guys. I don't normally do this, but I wanted some feedback on a couple of short screenplays I did for a contest. Yes, I crashed out and burned because one of them didn't hit the specific requirements (or genre), but I wanted to know what you thought of them. Please be honest. https://www.stage32.com/profile/124350/Screenplay/Leniency https://www.stage32.com/profile/124350/Screenplay/Bad-Fish
Hey Albert, What group where you in? I was in group 15 and now am in group 1. My current script sucks so I'm probably not going to get through but it was a really fun ride. I had never done it before.

Are you sure the reason you crashed out was because you didn't hit the specific requirements? I tried NYC Midnight once and was bitterly disappointed with it. Not because I didn't progress (there are other comps where I don't progress but will enter again) but because of the garbage that did progress. If NYC Midnight just did screenplays then you could kind of accept the fact that formatting is not their top priority and they might let a good story through even if it doesn't follow strict formatting rules but the fact that NYC Midnight has two other short story categories, it should insist that screenplays follow a screenplay format but even that aside, I was seeing other scripts get through that didn't hit the specific requirements/genre. Try looking up their address or who they are and you might come to the same shifty conclusion that I did and I certainly wouldn't be using your results in their competition as a guide to the quality of your writing.

Now I have to look up the address! So what does it say about me if I did place?! LOL! I've heard horror stories, but I've had a good experience with them so far. It's been fun.

No reflection on your writing JP, good stories get through too, but when you look at the crap that does get through, you've really got to question the legitimacy of this comp. Any reputable place should have a proper address, should have professional contacts that are involved in some way and should have an event. It's funny but I picture the NYC Midnight committee as being one person, a fat dude in his underwear who never leaves his apartment and spaces his comps evenly throughout the year and basically just lives off that money. I could be wrong but I won't be entering it again.
I was in group 14. I passed with flying colors in the first round and then got dropped.
I made it to the final round last year but didn't submit because my work commitments clashed with the writing deadline. It's haunted me ever since...
