It sure pays to pay attention to the small bios accompanying the names of the various producers and managers hearing pitches: I caught the history of projects undertaken by a terrifically talented producer and concluded from that info that he might gravitate to material in one of my screenplays and so pitched to him..... with great results. Indeed, digest the bios and see if there's a common thread that could make your pitch a natural fit.

Couldn't agree more -- also pays to look even more into their slate via sites like imdb, it's absolutely crucial to do your due diligence even if it's just to strike up conversation.
