Screenwriting : All that's left is the polish by Cynthia Hochhalter

All that's left is the polish

A smoking binge (have since quit) and three drafts later, all that's left is the polish. It's so close to being ready that now I'm nervous, excited and I nearly cried when I typed the last word. Do you find yourself getting emotional when you finish? I plan on letting this sit for a couple of days before doing the polish. I need the break before I dive back into this and my next project.

Cynthia Hochhalter

There are a few minor changes that have to be made and then I need to do a thorough read (aloud), recheck dialogue and whatnot. When I feel I've done all I can, then I think it'll be time for the next stage of development which is to get it read. Thank you!

Mike Romoth

All that excitement is what keeps us engaged year after year. Keep up the good work.

David Levy

There is never a true final draft on any script. It will always be a work in progress!

Cynthia Hochhalter

I never called this a final draft. In fact, I said the reading would be the next stage of development after I do a polish.

David Levy

I understood that. I amin the same boat, revision after revision. But even after you complete the revisions you want, there will always need to be revisions to revisions. So no matter what, you will be revising it from now until a time it is optioned and shot. Even then, there will need to be revisions! That was my point! LOL.

Cynthia Hochhalter

I've always known in this business, revisions would be endless. My point was that I was nearing the point of letting this baby go for other eyes to look it over, which is a huge step for me. I suppose I should keep my celebratory moments to myself.

Rick Reynolds

An old artist proverb: It's never done, it's just due.

David Levy

Nah! Always good to express yourself and not let people like myself deter you from it. I release a big SIGH when I finish a script. Good to share it as you never know around here who might want to lend their eyes to your work so always share!

Cynthia Hochhalter

Thank you!

Rick Reynolds

Finishing a script is always an emotional thing. Always. I've found a hookah with a little rose shisha keeps me focused to the fade out. But the last words are always something special.

David Levy

I am 2 pages from finishing a TV pilot. I know the scene's and action I want to write to finish it. Just a matter of making sure I execute my vision correctly. As long as I can see the camera shots clearly I know I can do it. Always want to make sure you leave them wanting more so it is taking me time to write 2 damn pages! LOL. In the end, it will be worth the aggravation.

Richard Allis

If I'm not getting emotional when I finish something, and maybe only feel a sort of relief, then I know it's not ready to share with anybody.

David Levy

There is a script I finished this past October that was a struggle to finish. Like a Mini Cooper trying to cross the Alps . Still have to come back to it!

Cynthia Hochhalter

I felt pretty emotional about this for a lot of reasons. It's why I knew I needed a break. I left the house for the day and I'm going to start the polish later. After that, I will put it in a drawer for a while, read it later and see if I still feel the same. Start a new writing project tomorrow or the next. Thanks for all the great advice!
