My Pilot is a one hour ensemble designed for Network TV but a good fit for cable and of course Netflix and Amazon. The Pilot gets great reviews, people love but it doesn't get past the next stage of real interest for some reason. One is some people consider it too close to The Newsroom and aren't interested. I actually started developing it 35 years ago but I digress, and it's radio not Cable TV News. That is neither here nor there at the moment, My question is; do you think I should go ahead and write the next NINE episodes and then start presenting it as a completed Season ONE of 10 episodes and push it to NF or AM or any of the others who are releasing first for bingewatching?
You know, I once co-wrote a whole season's worth of episodes for a proposed series that got some sniffs, but as yet hasn't been picked up. i think it's a bonus if you have all ten episodes written, the question you have to ask yourself is if you think it's worth the time to invest in something so large that may not be picked up. we did it because we had nothing else to do(lol), but i don't know if i recommend it. if you have something else you really want to write, maybe do that and go back and forth. good luck!
It's my understanding that both Netflix and Amazon are only airing content provided by established producers and name actors. Maybe you should try to first approach an established producer with the pitch. I'd maybe write a couple more episodes, so if the producer likes the pitch and the first episode, I already have two more to show. You should already have access to established producers, given your stature in the biz. And radio is still alive - just not alive as it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago. Good luck, Bob.
actually Bill, your advice is similar to that of a producer I'm working with on another project. This one is not up his alley. He said i need to find a show runner to fall in love with it and run with it from there. Not easy at the moment. Tried to reach out to several who just had shows canceled but can't get a response. Would love to do that.
