Screenwriting : Does anyone have any successful written pitches? by Adam McCulloch

Does anyone have any successful written pitches?

Does anyone have any written pitches that have been successful in pitch sessions? It would be interesting to see them posted in the lounge if anyone is willing.

Zach Rosenau

Since the fee is the same, you are better off (in my humble opinion) doing a Skype pitch. It's more stressful for us writers, but that's exactly the point. I still haven't figured out the difference between a written pitch and a query letter, which in theory can cost us merely the price of postage (which changes every year now, so I have no idea what that is, but it's still less than 50 cents).

I agree, Zach. Especially if you present well. It would be great to see some feeds of recorded successful pitches too. In the webinar tonight Joey mentioned that the most recent successful pitches were both written. Keen to see or hear the methodology of the success stories.

I have only done Skype pitches in the past but, I plan on only doing written pitches in the future. Here is a good post by Lisa. https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting/Written-vs-Skype-Pitching

Thanks Eric. Why the change from Skype to written?

Eric Pagan

I do think that everyone should try Skype pitching to get instant feed back of your pitch but, like Joey said "some executives prefer the written pitches because it gives the executive the ability to see the writers strengths as a screenwriter"

Lawrence R. Kotkin

Has anyone found the book How to Get Your Point Across in 30 Seconds or Less, useful for creating pitches? Milo Frank gives clear advice and method for the hook and all the rest of the pitch. Oh, and it's a skinny little book that doesn't take much more than 30 seconds to read. What does take time is practice.

Thanks for the tip Lawrence!

Beth Fox Heisinger

Great tip, Lawrence! Very helpful book. Thanks for sharing. :)
