It's not often that I get narcissistic, but I've recently made my short film Drawn publicly available, and I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think! https://vimeo.com/131375716 An in depth backstory of the film: I was working as a 2nd Unit Director on a Government funded short film, and the Director, as well as the Producer, asked me if I had anything in the works, and, I didn't. The Producer told me that I should make something for a Festival that she runs, the deadline of which was in 6 weeks. I shrugged it off with a simple "Yeah, I will, that sounds great...". Silly me, I didn't realise the potential and magnitude of the festival. I had this sticky note with an idea for a short film sitting on my shelf, and I'd looked at it countless times, but didn't see a reason to make it. It was only after watching an episode of the most underrated YouTube Channel 'Film Riot', where Ryan said to just get out there and make the damn thing. So I did. I spent 1 month storyboarding every shot, as I knew I wouldn't have much time to shoot it by the time I got back from my 2 week Work Experience at Australia's largest Pay-TV company, Foxtel. I got home on the Saturday, had family Christmas on the Sunday, and started rolling at 8am Monday. I poured my soul into this project for 5 days; I was not a human, merely a machine. My friends and I shot guerrilla around Melbourne, a 2 hour trip from where we live, for a long 12 hour day (you know how it is), and spent the following day getting the rest of the shots we needed to at our office location and various other locations. The Wednesday was spent editing, through the night to Thursday, all day Thursday, and through the night to Friday. Yep, I did not sleep for 3 days editing it. Well, actually I personally only spent one. My friends on VFX spent render times napping, and had a decent nights sleep on the second night, whilst i trawled my lord and saviour, AudioJungle.net for a solid 2 days, trying to pick out the perfect music for our little project. Needless, to say, render times being the BANE of my existence, the final export (50.2GB) finished with 30 minutes till the Friday 6pm deadline, with a solid 15-20 minute drive to the local council offices (drop point). 6 months on, and Drawn has won several awards across Australia and the States, and has earned us the viewership of Andrew Mason - producer of The Matrix, Fred Scepisi, Australia's most prolific director (Evil Angels - "Dingo's got me baby!") and many other profound actors. If you've read all that, I praise you, as do all my friends, because the cast and crew of Drawn ALL put everything into the film, and I'm certainly very grateful for that.
