The one thing that I think has helped me the most with my screenwriting is to get professional teaching and coaching. My current screenplay has been through a first draft and a polished draft with Pilar Alessandra. She is excellent but highly in demand. A consultation with her can be a six month wait. After my consultation with her, I entered Bluecat Screenplay competition and just got some great notes (a big benefit of that contest - they allow you to rewrite and resubmit). I did a rewrite to address those (excellent) notes. So yes, my screenplay is getting a lot of interest but the more I do this, the more I learn, I can always make it better. It has already been the official selection of the 2015 Film Festival and a finalist in the British Independent Film Festival - but that doesn't mean I can't make it better. It is only my third screenplay and I know that the pros have to take notes all the time - some all they way through the filmmaking process and even sometimes editing. When I get someone experienced who gives me a note, I take it very seriously. I just purchased a consultation with Patrick Raymond of Mandalay Entertainment through Stage 32. This was my first conversation with someone at that level in the industry. Patrick is someone who is making movies everyday. Aside from getting some good in depth advice from someone who took the time to learn who I was and what I wanted to do, it gave me a measure of confidence that I can handle myself in a professional situation. Patrick gave me a few notes that I will be using to give my screenplay one more polish, then it will be sent off to Lionsgate and Gotham Entertainment (two successful pitches made through Stage 32).

Regardless of it being your third or thirty third screenplay, Frank, you never stop learning and I think the moment you do, that's when you need to worry about your writing! Good luck with the polishes and reads!
