Why would a casting director refer me to an agency in the Philly/New York Market? I live in Texas so this doesn't seem beneficial to anybody even if it's a scam. I asked them how they found me and the scout told me, "A casting director gave us your info and we wanted to meet you once we seen your work" What do you guys think? Redonkulous, right?

Weird.
ain't it?
they made me laugh when they said.. "'We want to meet you so we can proceed to the next step.. so when is a good time for you to come in our office for a meeting?" Me: umm, I live in Texas, you buying my ticket? "Oh, well whenever your in the area please contact us so we can set that meeting up" SERIOUSLY?
lol

How about just getting really practical in your response, like "I live in Texas - if you'd like to meet, I would suggest a Skype meeting." See how they respond to logic.
that was my initial response. They insist on me visiting the office for a physical one on one meeting.

Ahh. Then I'd write them off - that's an unreasonable response unless they're footing your travel expenses. You might have better luck looking looking for representation in a hot industry area in the south like Atlanta. Maybe do some of that research?
I wasn't looking for representation. The fact that a supposed CD initiated the communication and interest in my favor, left me confused. Sure, I wouldn't mind having representation for that market but how unprofessional of a agency to approach someone they are unwilling to accommodate. In the end, I sent an email encouraging them to make the arrangements for me, if this was an opportunity they were genuinely interested in pursuing
The last agent I had was actually in NC. Janine Jannicelli, she was awesome and covered Texas, Cali and Most of the East Coast.
