Getting to those big auditions

Hey Guys, Im currently building myself up as an actress and am doing really well so far. I tend to focus on feature films and have already managed to get myself onto the big screen by just networking. Currently I am representing myself due to my last agent closing his company. My question to you is 'How do I go about getting the bigger auditions for TV and Film' without an agent? I live in the UK and have been part of Casting Call Pro, Spotlight, IMDB and Starnow. It does appear that these sites are more for commercial work then Features or Television. Any ideas?

Megan, a lot of it is about contacts. That is why even commercial work helps. The more people you meet and talk to the more you learn. At least in Italy actors tend to help each other. I referred a mate to a job I could do but will be away. Every job is a learning experience and chance to improve. Like they say, "Who dares, wins." And "Fortune favors the bold." I am now acting at La Scala in Milan because I applied for a job that was really aimed at third world faces. But being old put me in the same class. Regards, Max

Hey Max, I totally agree with you there! Ive managed to get 100% of my own work by networking and taking projects on that have been fun to do. Im still filming quite a bit, but I want to get to the next stage. Come November my showreel will be completed and I will go after an agent I want, but for now, id love to know how to get the auditions for the bigger roles while still networking and meeting people. The UK is a great place to be, I do tend to help my friends out and I would hope they would do the same for me. :)

Megan, I saw Bathspa on your CV. Is that near Corsham Court? I stayed there a few weeks in 82 when I worked in Chippenham. I play ages 60-dead. In the next opera I will be the undead with nails in my head, then an angel. My wife says angels are usually very young. There is only so much makeup can do. I find that opera and probably other stage work allows better contacts as you work together longer. On Otello now we have worked together for 2 months and are all good friends. The next opera will begin rehearsals in early Dec. and end in March plus they called all 10 of us mimes (non speaking actors) back so it will be fun. After 10 performances or takes I learn the role, then they go and change it. Max
