Producing : Scheduling and Budgeting Software by Wardaan T

Personally I really love Movie Magic scheduling and budgeting. They ingrate beautifully with each other and MM Screenwriter. I'm a mac user. I'm not 100% sure if it's PC compatible but I would guess so.

Adobe Story has a scheduling feature and syncs with the latest version of your script. Minus points: it's Flash based and won't work on iPad. I'm using Google Docs for the budget. I've been looking at yamdu.com. It's slick and appears to be owned by Arri. There's a free option so you can test it out. I've got Movie Magic (works on Mac & Windows), but these newer online production apps make it handy to collaborate with others and access on other devices.

Thanks Beverly, one of my friend is using window based Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting. But Katherine you are talking about some Google Docs for budget, how is it and where can I get it?

re. Google Docs, I upload an excel file. If you search for "film production budget template excel" you'll find lots of film budget templates for free. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts of Yamadu.

I checked yamdu, it is good but it needs internet and those who are using it have to be through in it. While searching for 'budget templates' I reached at screen Australia site there all production templates are available. I downloaded it and now going through it.

Google docs is actually free! Google drive is free and includes both docs and sheets which are like word and excel but run off real time. I use G-Drive more than anything!

Gorilla is top of the line and worth it if you can swing it, are in it for the long haul and don't have the patience for excel. I think it's on sale now.

What about Microsoft Project, does anyone tried it for scheduling and budgeting?

Wardan, unless you are an experienced UPM or Line Producer or 1st A.D. the software will not help you create a schedule or budget, as you need to know what to input into these programs. don't waste your money. Have it done professionally and my rates are low. www.indiefilmbudgeting.com - Gary

Wardan, Movie Magic is a must unless you want to budget an ultra low budget film or short then you can use AICP budget format, which is used for all commercials, is free and is Excel based. I use it for films that $250K or less. For everything else Movie Magic is the industry standard and if you use some other knock off you won't be able to share files with any Producer, Line Producer, UPM or Director in the industry.

I've used Chimpanzee (a stripped-down version of Gorilla) which is a good starter software. Integrates seamlessly with Final Draft and is very user friendly. If you want something beyond the basics you might want to try Gorilla, but Movie Magic is the industry standard. I guess it comes down to how much you're willing to spend.

well as you say "after spent years trying hard..." its about time to have a software including ALL is needed to make Actual movie in one SW, i guess who realy want to make a movie with limited fund, will have to be curiouss to check it , as said by the Ugly: "When you have to shoot, shoot! don't talk" (the Good the Bad and the Ugly) lolol

There is Celtx, which I think has been mentioned on here. It's online studio features are only 10 bucks. (Call sheets, budgeting the works.) Course then there is the pure just call sheets item which is Studio binder http://studiobinder.com/ You can get started for free and try it out. It enables you to send personalized call sheets in your crew and actors emails. (With attached PDFs!) (Also I am not being paid by them - just simply found it cool)

Ooo, and I forgot to mention Movidiam.com - its still new and dosent have call sheet capablites yet but it does have project managment tools. Soon it might have live call sheet that you can up date on the fly. (Or so they tease us with)

I really think the software needed is budget dependent and shoot days required. I'm using chimpanzee (gorilla's baby brother!) for my short at the moment. And as long as budget is less than 75k and you won't be shooting for more than 15 days then it's perfect. Very reasonably priced as well and easy to use.
