Introduce Yourself : The Dream That Wouldn't Die by Denise Meyers

The Dream That Wouldn't Die

Thirty years ago, I moved from Oregon to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. Twelve years later, with nothing more than a few free options to my name, left the film business for a successful career as an artist. Life happened, and now I am back, giving the dream that wouldn't die one more shot with the help of Joey Tuccio and Stage 32. Through the Happy Writers program, I am now working with one of the top film companies in the business on a script I wrote about the Women's Air Service Pilots, another script I wrote after winning a contest through Stage 32 for an eight week screenwriting intensive at New York Film Academy has a producer and a director and is currently being shopped to actresses and financiers, and a short script I wrote just won the Grand Prize for Short Screenplays through Table Read My Screenplay. I'm not to the point where its time to pick out my dress for the Academy Awards, but I really think this time will be the charm.

What an inspiring story!

Robert Rosenbaum

Nice to hear as I am there are others in similar situations, as I am feeling somewhat old to be starting out (for like the fourth time?) in the business.

Denise Meyers

The way I look at it is this, Robert. I'm going to die someday anyway, so there's no benefit to holding back. Its not going to stop time, and if I never reach my goals, then at least I will know I did everything I could to make it happen.

Robert Rosenbaum

Sounds like you're doing a great job. I've had a little success in the past, but was never able to build on it. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes.

Grant Vetters

Way to go both of you. I'm in the same boat, and few I have no choice but to follow my heart and chase the dream! Fingers crossed for both of you!

Elliot Grove

You wont want to know how 'old' I was when I started Raindance! As they say: Age is in the head.

L.D. Pinson

This is truly inspiring....you're never too old or young to live your dreams. My hats off to you and your endeavours.

Love the subject line. Absolutely love it. Your passion shines through, Denise. Congratulations on all the success you've had with The Happy Writers and working with Joey.

Rafael Pinero

Wow, that's a great story Denise, I shot my first and only feature when I was 33, finished it and premiered when I was 36, nothing has really happened, now I'm about to turn 43 years old and I'm feeling like it's too late for me. I wish you the best, you've got what it takes.

Richard "RB" Botto

Never too late. Content wins the day. Age is a state of mind.

Jennifer L. T. Gies

Right on. I just moved back to L.A. from Chicago (nine days ago) with a few scripts in hand, more ideas lined up, and a long and varied career in the music business behind me. I work with a company called Gigable (http://gigable.net) which is young but evolving; so far most of what we've done is facilitated house concerts for musicians wanting to expand their reach in terms of both fanbase and market. I did all kinds of writing and production in my undergrad years at Northwestern University and want to get back to that, as well. I'm mostly looking for people willing to read my scripts and make suggestions or connections. Tips on full-time jobs in music and film administration (what I like to call "facilitator" roles) in L.A. will be gratefully received.

Richard "RB" Botto

Definitely in the right place, Jennifer. This community is quite amazing. Be visible, be active and be yourself!
