RB, I have two books published, Intel thrillers, plus two more in the pipeline. y terrific literary agency has recommended to launch a screenplay treatment from book one of the series. It seemed daunting at the beginning but you follow the original book adapt it to what a screenplay would be like. There are of course other segments attached. This is my first stab at adapting a book to screen. Hey, Stage 32'ers...what particular facets, phases, construction do you follow, anything I should be aware of like WHAT not to do.

Hey Ron, this is Beth from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Screenwriting to Introduce Yourself, as it fits much better there. If you'd like to converse with RB more directly, it's often better to comment on RB's Friday Blogs, or register for his monthly free webinars "On Stage with RB"— there's one this Tuesday, November 24; check the Stage 32 Blog for information. RB does keep an eye over the entire site and responds often, but is quite busy as you can imagine. Frankly, I don't know how he manages it all! :) And if you're looking for advise for screenplay adaptation of a book I kindly suggest posting a general question in the Screenwriting section asking how to do so. You may receive a better response with an open question to our entire screenwriting membership. We're a friendly, helpful bunch ;) Best to you!

Hey Ron...Always great to see you. And I appreciate Beth moving the post so I could find it more easily. I would highly suggest taking the last part of your post and making a new post on the subject in the Screenwriting section of the Lounge. It's a very active and supportive forum!

IRB, Beth, in the screenplay from book movie adaptation treatment is the norm to use much of the dialog or can it be condensed to only what's significant?

Beth Fox Heisinger

Ron, again, I suggest you post questions about adaptations in the Screenwriting section -- with 80,000+ screenwriters on our site someone should be able to give you answers. Personally, I have not done an adaptation myself. General searches on the internet prove helpful too. :) Here's one article I found on the subject: http://www.scriptmag.com/features/craft-features/adapting-a-book-into-a-...

Oh, the article I referenced was written by Danny Manus. He's a script consultant and a member of Stage 32. You can find him right here on the site. :)
