Screenwriting : Beginner Writer by Devon Edwards

Beginner Writer

I would love if I could just get all the basics down like character, structure, and if it is absolutely necessary to follow the 3 act structure? I have written short films in film school and actually made three of them. I attempted to write a feature and I think that I did pretty good considering my limited amount of writing. I submitted to the Screenwriters Lab for Sundance and made it to the second round, so I must be on the right track. I just need to get better and I write everyday whether it's a sentence or a scene. I just need a mentor in screenwriting to help in my mistakes in the writing. I know that some say that screenwriting is rewriting. Help

In terms of the mentorship question, I am a volunteer Board member of the nonprofit CineStory Foundation. Our screenwriting Fellow (yes, it's a nonprofit contest, and there is a winner/fellow selected every year) receives a year of free mentorship from the TWO mentors/Board members of his choice. Most people choose screenwriters Mark Fergus and Joe Forte. Check them out on IMDB! The 2013 CineStory Fellow saw his winning script CAKE become a movie starring Jennifer Aniston, and it was CineStory that introduced him to director Daniel Barnz. CineStory is a great organization, and the mentorship is completely free to the annual Fellow. CineStory.org
